NEW: Cops, firefighters to face off in drag race

Gateway International Raceway is hosting a race competition next week pitting area first responders against one another.

"Guns and Hoses" will include drag races between fire and police departments vying for the inaugural John Hamm Trophy, named after the mayor of Madison, where the track is located.

Track spokesman Brandon W. Mudd said the races are open to all area police and fire departments workers. Participants must bring their own vehicles, which will be matched against similar cars. They must also sign a waiver, he said.ESPN racing analyst Bret Kepner will also teach racing lessons to participants.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Racing starts at 6 p.m. Entry fees are $20 and tickets are $10 for adults, with kids under 12 free. First responders are also free.
