A Caseyville resident put her cooking skills to the test at the St. Clair County Fair last week, netting three first-place prizes for her effort.

Bonita Loyet, who became popular for bringing desserts to work, was persuaded to enter her tasty baked goods into the St. Clair County Fair just last year. As a rookie in the competition, she walked away with five ribbons.

At last weekend's Belleville event, she followed up that performance with an impressive 10 ribbons, including three for first place."They weren't sure if it was a record," said Loyet, who works at Nestle Purina in St. Louis, and makes all her items fresh from the garden in her backyard. "I can't wait until next year."

Along with her culinary skills, Loyet also decided to enter several floral assemblies made from flowers and plants she grew herself. Her top winners included a plate full of pumpkin bread, a variety package of cookies and an assembly of miniature flowers.

"It's fun to do," she added. "Next year, I'm thinking about entering some artwork."

Loyet is a lifelong local resident and graduated from Collinsville High School in 1980. Her husband Larry Loyet is well known in the area as part of the local band Level-5 (previously known as Dixie Express), which also played at the fair.
