John B. Kachuba.
Author John B. Kachuba, otherwise known as the Ghosthunter, has made a career out of trying to explain the seemingly unexplainable, and on Oct. 7 he will be sharing his insights into the supernatural with a local audience as he makes a personal appearance at the Fairview Heights library.

Kachuba, who has authored several books on the subject of puzzling phenomenon, including "Ghosthunters: On the Trail of Mediums, Dowsers, Spirit Seekers and Other Investigators of America's Paranormal" and "Ghosthunting Illinois," is slated to speak at 7 p.m. in the Kinsella Room.

"We expect a big crowd for this event, so reservations are a must," said Librarian Debbie Owen. While researching his books, Kachuba has traveled throughout the United States to visit many of America's reputed haunted locales. He's interviewed dozens of eyewitnesses and talked to leading figures in the field of paranormal research.

According to book reviewer Brad Steiger and the author of "Real Ghosts, Restless Spirits and the Haunted Places," Kachuba is "neither a gullible believer nor a skeptical disbeliever in ghosts and the paranormal. He is first and foremost a talented writer who strives to be a truly objective investigator. Kachuba writes with charm and great wit, but be forewarned, he'll have you chuckling at one passage and then he'll scare the socks off you with the next."

A resident of Athens, Ohio, Kachuba holds advanced degrees in Creative Writing from Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and Ohio University in Athens. He has taught writing at the University of Cincinnati and Ohio University. In addition, he is on the faculty of the Gotham Writing Guild.

Since the beginning of the year, Kachuba has been busy making personal appearances in support of his newest book. By the year's end he will have made 39 personal appearances and numerous radio and TV interviews.

Copies of his books will be on sale at the Oct. 7 event.

To reserve a seat or seats for Kachuba's appearance, call the Fairview Heights Public Library at 489-2070 or e-mail fha@lcls.org.

The presentation is not recommended for children under the age of 10.
